"Plasmavision®(*1)-World Wide-" New Release
Expanded lineup fueled by strong overseas market demand for
large size screen models.
Realizing true color tone with "Natural Color" reproduction
|
|
We begin by introducing a new 63W model, the largest in the world,
and then a new 55W model. These plasma displays will debut sequentially
in December 2003.
By adopting newly developed panels for our current 50W and 42W
models, we will realize the same natural and realistic improved
color tone for these models.
Our company espouses the plasma display as the "Heart of Home
Theater." We are promoting this slogan as we expand the line up
to include more large-size screens and deliver a higher-quality
picture.
Specifically, we have created more large-screen models like the
50W and 61W, and 42W remains our smallest size.
Also, we've developed the world's first PDP-dedicated full digital
audio processor, known as "AVM (Advanced Video Movement)" (*3)
Our company's Plasma display concept has garnered favorable reviews
in Europe and the USA.
Sales also have reflected especially favorably on this concept
in the USA, where 50W accounts for half of all panel sales, and
High Definition accounts for 80%.
Fujitsu General Limited won the coveted 2002 Emmy Award for Scientific
Development and Technical Achievement from the US National Association
of Television Arts and Sciences. Fujitsu also won the "Excellent
Award," - a first for PDP - from the publisher of Germany's famous
"Image Home Entertainment" magazine, in May 2003.
Moreover, the Japanese domestic digital infrastructure, including
BS (Broadcasting Satellite), digital broadcasting, DVD, broad
band and ground-based digital broadcasting, and so on have all
expanded rapidly; letting more and more customers enjoy higher
quality pictures than ever before.
Against this backdrop, both domestic and overseas, we recognize
more customers than ever before want to watch high-quality pictures
on larger screens. So we've brought to market the world's largest
63W model (*2)and an all-new 55W model, to expand our
line-up and meet the demand.
We have enhanced the high quality picture of our PDP-dedicated
full digital video processor "AVM(Advanced Video Movement)" and
have realized a true color tone "Natural Color" to reproduce natural
color.
The new 63W, 55W and 50W models each have the 1366 x 768 high
resolution pixel array; the continuing 42W model high-resolution
panel features the "ALiS" 1024 x 1024 pixel array to bring both
brightness and accurate color reproduction.
And we've improved on our already high quality picture by bringing
10-bit signal processing into "AVM".
We have added the "Professional setting" feature to our current
"Fine Mode" setting on all our models. "Fine Mode" improves the
"look and feel" of cinema-based content.
With the new models, our line-up now has the widest array of sizes
(*4)in the industry.
We are offering customers in Japan a powerful big-screen experience
already enjoyed by our customers in the US and Europe.
Meanwhile, for the future, we're developing larger size screens
based on PDP characteristics. We've even set our sights on a 100-inch
model class.

| 1:Meeting various needs by offering the most
size variations in the industry with improved-performance panels.
|
The world-largest 63W type panel(*5)(1366 x 768 pixels,
wide XGA type) in a new series has been developed by expanding to
large model.
In addition, we're introducing a new 55W size model with 1,000cd/m2
brightness. We drive its progressive display with an all-new "e-ALiS"
driving method.
We've improved the performance of the 50W, 42W and 42W (ALiS) sizes
by adopting new fluorescent substances and updating the panel drive
circuits. Also, the 50W model achieves the highest level of contrast
in the industry at 3,000:1.
42W ALIS panel is not only a high definition picture display (1,024
x 1,024 pixels), but also has high brightness(1,100cd/m2). Its ability
to display moving pictures on this panel has improved greatly.
Our specific developed full digital video processor "AVM" processes
the high definition picture data of large-scale screen with sufficient
capacity according to the advanced technology such as 10 bits input
signal processing, high-accuracy digital scaler with the width of
operation exceeding 100 bits, multi gradation adaptive gamma processing
and recursive FIR filter etc.
In drawing out the performance of panel thoroughly, the high quality
picture of the highest level in the industry has been realized for
all screen size models.
With the new models, our line-up now has the widest array of sizes(*4)in
the industry.
We are offering customers in Japan a powerful big-screen experience
already enjoyed by our customers in the US and Europe.
(*4) In the 42W type or more class model, as of October, 2003, according
to our company's survey.

| 2 :Reproducing a true color tone "Natural
Color" |
The color tone of "CRT Television", so-called "Television Color"
is the mainstream of color reproduction in the market. However,
we have concentrated on reproducing a true color tone and high colorfulness
picture - since our company espouses the PDP as the "Heart of Home
Theater" - and not just a replacement for the analog CRT television.
In the new series, a more realistic true color tone "Natural Color"
has been adapted. "Natural Color" is a true natural color reproduction
by maximizing the use of "High colorfulness digital multi-conversion
system" of AVM (Advanced Video Movement)," a full digital video
processor designed specifically for PDP. AVM optimizes video processing
with parameters set especially to the luminescence characteristic
of PDP's fluorescent substance. |
| 3 :Providing picture control functions that
match any customer's preference for picture quality. |
- "Fine mode" function
In controlled-lighting home theater environments, the "Fine
mode" function (hyper-cinema mode) precisely controls not only
the signal processing parameters, but also the PDP discharge
timing based on the input video signal level. This lets us optimize
the brightness level while preserving the reproduction of gradations
and accurate color. The result: a Movie theater presence, with
a picture density and "feel" of the cinema experience. We deliver
this even when the screen brightness is turned down to match
the subdued room lighting.
- "Professional setting" function
Various picture adjustment functions have been incorporated
to correspond to the user's strong requirement for picture quality.
- "Luminance" adjustment function which can set the brightness
of "Fine mode" minutely in 13 steps.
- "Black level" adjustment function which can set only the
brightness of "dark scene" often seen in the movie source
in 31 steps.
- "Color temperature" adjustment function which can set
color temperature in 15 steps at every 500K (Kelvin temperature).
- "Picture memory" function which can store the set adjustment
value for up to 8 patterns.
