We will start selling two new models (4 types) of 50-inch and 42-inch
wide plasma displays incorporating full digital video processor
"AVM*" system of our original development exclusive for
PDP in August both in domestic and overseas markets.
The world-wide demand of the plasma displays which is expected to
increase for wide range of application by the development of larger
screen, higher quality and lower cost models is estimated to reach
2 million sets in 2003. Currently, the mainstream of demand is for
commercial use, but the demand of high resolution plasma displays
for home theater use is expected to increase sharply due to the
commencement of digital Hi-Vision broadcast and the spread of DVD
in such countries as Japan, America, Australia.
To cope with such a market movement, we have developed a full digital
video processor "AVM*" (Advanced Video Movement) of our
original technology which corresponds to plasma display panels for
various systems and enables to attain the highest picture quality.
The industry's top level of picture quality, high function and considerable
improvement of reliability have been realized by the new models
with adoption of "AVM*" system.
In this new model line-up, the wider variety of models became available
with addition of a large screen 50-inch "Plasmavision®
W" making full use of the feature of plasma display and a 42-inch
"Plasmavision® W" adopting a new ALIS system.
The 50-inch "Plasmavision® W" display reproduces
high resolution picture of digital Hi-Vision as well as normal video
signals in high quality picture by driving high resolution panel
of display pixels 1366 x 768 dots by "AVM*" and is also
compatible with PC output signals of up to UXGA.
The 42-inch "Plasmavision® W" display realizes
the high picture quality for wide range of application from home
theater use to commercial use by adopting new ALIS system with higher
brightness, stepped up from the highly valued first ALIS system
(display pixels 1024 x 1024), and "AVM*" system.
Furthermore, in order to meet the world-wide demands, we will release
Class A type and Class B type of electromagnetic wave standard for
both models simultaneously.
