Corporate History


The history of Fujitsu General is a history of looking at people's day-to-day life.


1935 - 1954
  • Yaou Shoten established in 1936. Branched out from the manufacture of radio receivers, loud speakers, electric phonographs, etc. to the manufacture of home electrical appliances.
  • First domestically made TV studio equipment delivered to NHK.
  • First domestically made front speaker system TV placed on sale.

1955 - 1964
  • Company name changed to Yaou Denki Co., Ltd.
    Kawasaki Factory (Main factory and Headquarters at the present) built.
    Head Office moved to Kawasaki City.
  • 14 inches TV sets (X-Line series) of a new design placed on sale with great success.
  • Succeeded in manufacturing and marketing the world's first all-transistor 9 inches color net system TV sets.

1965 - 1974
  • TV system for polar region loaded aboard "Fuji" , the south-pole observation ship.
  • Developed the world's first electronic cash register
  • Thin-film IC and thick-film IC manufacturing technology developed and production started.


1975 - 1984
  • Succeeded in trial manufacture of Video Disc Player based on an agreement with TED of West Germany.
  • Sound-multiplex color TV placed on sale.
  • Developed and marketed two-tub type washing machine with "sprinkle machanism" that mixes soap powder with water.
  • Developed and marketed Japan's first TV set with built-in personal computer (MSX).
  • Won Science and Technology Agency "Noteworthy Invention" Prize for developing a "humidity sensor" using thick-film technology.
  • Capital tie-up with Fujitsu Ltd.

1985 - 1988
  • Fujitsu General System Engineering established for software development through joint investment with Fujitsu Ltd.
    New laboratory building completed. Trade name "General" changed to "Fujitsu General".
    Company name changed to Fujitsu General Limited.
  • Developed and marketed automated air conditioners in anticipation of Home Automation.

1989 - 1998
  • Developed and marketed CS Tuner Antenna for receiving satellite broadcasts.
  • Fujitsu General (Thailand) Co., Ltd. established as an air conditioner manufacturing company.
  • Compact and powerful air conditioner "Mighty Compact" placed on sale.
  • Japan's first 21 inches full-color monitor with plasma display panel placed on sale.
  • Fujitsu General (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. established as an affiliate for the manufacture of air conditioners.
  • Comfortable and energy saving air conditioners that mount Japan's first Power Diffuser mechanism placed on sale.
  • The world's first 42 inches Color Plasma Display placed on sale.

1999 -
  • FGA (Thailand) Company Limited founded for the manufacture of motors for air conditioners.
  • Refrigerator Manufacturing Department spun off to establish Fujitsu General Refrigerator Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
  • "Sophisticated Breathing" Series with new "Automatic Open/Close Panel" mechanism and world's first "Senshinkokyu®" system placed on sale.
  • Plasmavision® W, featuring high precision and high brilliancy display realized by adoption of ALIS system.
  • Fujitsu General Electronics Ltd. established.
  • Technical Assistance Agreement concluded with "ETA General Private Limited" of India for the manufacture and sale of air conditioners.
  • Fuji Ecocycle Co., Ltd. established at Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture for the recycling of home electrical appliances.
  • Joint venture "Aircon Japan S.A.E." established for the manufacture and commercialization of air conditioners in Egypt.
  • World's first absorption cooling type refrigerators "Neostage™" placed on sale.
  • General Care Service Ltd. founded to provide care service at Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture.
  • First all-digital video processor "AVM" (Advanced Video Movement) for exclusive use with plasma displays placed on sale.AVM's were incorporated into all units.
  • Entry into market for multi air conditioning system for buildings in earnest.
  • 61 inches Plasma Display, the largest in the world, placed on sale.
  • 2002 Emmy Awards awarded : the "2002 Scientific Technological Achievement Emmy Awards" was awarded for our contribution to broadcasting industry by plasma display technology for the first time in Plasma Display Panel sector.
